John is hired to cast a Venezuelan non-actress in Colombia to play a role in a fiction film about a poor migrant woman. In interviews and exercises, John attempts to create a safe space for the potential cast to reflect on violence, exploitation and xenophobia against Venezuelans in Colombia. But what a fiction film role itself supposes about poor Venezuelans stirs mixed feelings about roles played in real life as well as this film. CASTING (working title) is a reflection on roles we are asked to play as women, or as victims, calling into question the idea of cinema as therapy.
