RAKE FILMS produces non-fiction cinema.
We observe the world, seek poetry in it, make movies out of it.
RAKE FILMS was founded in 2012 by Italian-American filmmaker Mo Scarpelli.
We produce feature-length films, documentary shorts,
video exhibitions and installations, and promotional videos and campaigns for international brands and non-profits.
Our independent films have screened at major international festivals such as the Berlinale, Visions du Réel, IDFA, SXSW, and more.
Our commercial clients include the Gap, Yahoo!, Google, Isaac Mizrahi, The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the END Fund, Aeras, Sabin Vaccine Institute, The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN), the Izumi Foundation, the Luminos Foundation, and more.
We have also directed, shot and edited pieces for The New Yorker,
The New York Times, The Guardian, CNN, the BBC, and Africa Review.
Rake Films builds the team for each film or video production based on the project’s specific needs.
The projects are usually directed by Mo Scarpelli.
Then we draw from a strong and experienced network ofindependent producers, cinematographers, sound recordists, sound designers, editors and technicians to bring the story to life.
Diversity is at the forefront of our efforts. We don’t believe in checking boxes or filling quotas; we believe in true parity in the independent film industry, and our efforts on every project work towards this in a way that is felt and seen in the projects themselves. Our collaborations have always been made up of not only people of different races and genders, but people with diverse points of view which elevate the film project’s capacity to reach underserved audiences.
We have experience filming in more than 25 countries, on projects big and small.
We work on things that we love, with people we love.
